Chuck Taylor… Wednesday

In honor of Heather, I present to you Chuck Taylor Tuesday… on Wednesday!

About a month ago I won a Facebook contest for a photoshoot with Erica. We cashed in on our prize on Monday evening and had some pictures taken of Elly. Erica is absolutely fabulous and we had a wonderful time getting to know her. She also has amazing photography skills and was able to capture some of Elly’s greatest facial expressions.  We have not seen all of our photos yet, but the few sneak peeks she has posted have blown our minds and we could not be happier with the results! The above picture is the 3 of us sporting our Chucks.

This one is, by far, my favorite… so far! It’s our “family” picture from the evening and I literally got teary eyed when I first saw it.

Once she has finished editing she will share the rest with us so we can pick which ones we want prints of, so if you would be interested in purchasing any please let me know and I will forward them on to you.

As for the big announcement I was going to reveal… sorry there has been such a delay. I wanted to wait to announce it until we had everything lined up, but unfortunately things are not progressing as we had planned and there are still some kinks that need to be worked out…. BUT, here it is:

We are moving to Appleton, Wisconsin on September 5!

We have been hoping, planning, and trying to get out of Mount Pleasant for ages and the opportunity finally arose. It was nearly impossible for us to line up jobs anywhere, but luckily things finally worked themselves out just when we had decided to stop looking. Isn’t it funny how things work out sometimes.  While the timing only left us with 3 weeks to prepare, we are very excited to start this new chapter in our lives.

In the process of trying to get things situation and ready, we actually had a chance to get Elly weighed today. She is currently 11 lbs. 15.5 oz – only 1/2 an ounce away from 12 pounds! She is also 25 3/4 inches long. Looks like our prediction of her being a tall, skinny beanpole are standing true. She is still cute as ever though and is growing up way faster than we want her too, but more on that tomorrow!

It’s been a long day of packing, so this Mama is off to bed!

The Big 8!

Elly turned 8 months old on July 3! It is crazy to believe it’s been 8 months, and even more crazy that it’s almost time for us to start planning her 1st birthday party!

7 months was huge for Elly, she grew a lot – physically and developmentally! We are so proud of everything she is capable of doing and we love her more and more every day

Weight/Length: Elly now weighs 10lbs. 12oz. and is around 25 inches long (ETA: we have not had an official length measurement since her 6 month appointment, so we have no idea how long she currently is)… she is still long and skinny, but she’s starting to get little chubby legs and arms from her muscles building from all of her rolling, scooting, and pulling herself up!

Clothing Size: Currently, she is fitting into 3-6/6 month shirts and onesies, but her waist still fits newborn/0-3/3 month pants.

Changing Table: Elly is up to a size 2 diaper! Since introducing solids, her poops have become more solid and much more stinky! I’ve also noticed that she’s started pooping a lot more than she used to, so we are going through diapers like crazy! She has also gotten into a nasty habit of undoing her diapers and rolling out of them if we do not change them fast enough. This usually only happens after she poops, which can be quite disastrous!  We are hoping that her aversion to being in a poopy diaper will help her to potty train really quickly! 🙂

Food: Elly seriously loves food! She has eaten everything we’ve given her and always has a smile on her face. She gets excited when she sees us making her food or when we go in the kitchen and has never fussed during a meal. Besides her purees, she has tried pickles, lettuce, spinach, avocado, broccoli, ice cream, cookies, hamburger, sweet potato fries, mac & cheese, watermelon, an orange, egg (yolks only), and plain waffle. I think her favorite is the apple cinnamon Gerber Puffs, she loves those things! We are so glad she is a such a great eater. She loves her fruits and her veggies and her treats, so we are hoping she continues these eating habits once she’s a toddler.

Sleep Habits: We got really lucky with this one. Elly has been sleeping through the night since around 6-8 weeks. We usually put her down around 10pm and she wakes up between 7-8am.  She is also on a nap schedule, and is doing great with it. She gets two 2 hour naps every day.  She never fusses when we put her down so we never had to do the “cry it out” method, which is probably good because I don’t think I could just sit here and listen to her cry. She usually babbles to herself for a few minutes and then falls asleep, unless she is really tired and then she just rolls over and passes out. She does sleep with a stuffed tiger, she cuddles him into her arm. It is probably the cutest thing ever!

Milestones: I don’t even know where to start! She has been sitting unassisted for a few months now, so that is nothing new. However, she has shown us that she can crawl… she just chooses not to. I guess she thinks that rolling and scooting are much more efficient. She has learned to pull herself up to standing and can stand alone with no assistance for a very brief time (like 2-3 seconds) before toppling over. She talks all the time and comes up with new sounds everyday!  She has almost perfected feeding herself. She hasn’t quite figured out how to turn the spoon around but she’s a pro at picking up food with her fingers and taking it to her mouth.  She loves playing peek-a-boo or “hide and seek” – we cover her eyes with a blanket and say “where’s Elly?” and she pulls it off and giggles. Today she waved “bye bye” to Daddy for the first time! I also took Elly to the lake for her first time with our friend Megan and she loved it! She just splashed around and laughed the entire time. She must get this from her Daddy, because I hated the water when I was younger. 🙂

Words: She has started calling me Mama, so I couldn’t be happier. Brent is a little jealous though 🙂

Teeth: Elly cut her first tooth on June 17! She now has 2 teeth that have cut through on the bottom, and a 3rd is showing on the top!

Lucky 13

Yesterday marked the 13th week since the greatest day of my life.

[Today is her 3 month birthday, but we haven’t had that photo shoot yet so expect those pictures later.]

I cannot believe how fast time goes by.  She is growing up so, so fast. She is already so loved, and our love grows for her everyday. She is the center of our world and I wouldn’t change anything for it.

Elly is wide awake right now and wanting some Mommy time, but I have a great post planned for later! 🙂

Failed Resolutions

I started off the New Year with great intentions of actually sticking to my resolutions. It is now February. We are a month into the new year, and so far I have failed.

I did not read any books in the month of January.

I only made 19 posts to the blog in January, meaning 11 days went by with nothing.

I have not been exercising or eating healthy.

If you noticed, I took down the 365 Day Project because I wasn’t keeping up with it either.

However, if I had made the resolution to take a ridiculous amount of pictures of my beautiful daughter on a daily basis, I would be more than succeeding.  I am fairly certain she will hate the camera when she gets older, but for now I am focused on wanting to capture everything. Every moment. Every milestone. Every smile. Maybe that is selfish of me, but hopefully she will appreciate it one day.

I have every intention of starting this month with a fresh slate. I plan to pick up a book and start reading it today. I plan to eat healthy and exercise. I plan to blog everyday. Sometimes plans fall through. I’m okay with that, I just need to keep myself motivated rather than feel disappointed. I’m not super-mom, and trying to fit in everything just is not going to happen everyday.

Elly is rarely napping during the day, so we get lots of time to spend together. Unfortunately, that makes it impossible to get anything else done. She is sleeping 8 hours a night now. She’s been doing it for about a week now, so I think we’ve finally got that down. Too bad my body has not adjusted and I’m up at random times anyway. Notice that this is being written at 4:11 in the morning? I have a sleeping husband, a sleeping baby, and two sleeping cats but I am wide awake. Hello, Mr. Internet!

Elly has also discovered how to use her hands. She has been starring at them and trying to eat them for several weeks now, but now she is actively grabbing at her toys, blankets, our shirts, Brent’s beard, our glasses, and really anything else she can get her hands on. She has a strong grip too, so cute! Last night, she also undid her diaper. I am not sure if it was intentional or if she was just flailing her arms about and just happened to snag the velcro tab… either way, it was undone when I looked in on her. Silly girl. She is also sitting up without assistance for brief periods, and by “brief periods” I mean 5-10 second intervals. She can also almost sit up by herself from an inclined position. Her muscles are developing nicely and she is getting so big! We are so proud of her. 🙂

She also got a new hat! It is size 0-3 months, but it still looks big on her!

I have no real plans for today. Brent does not have to work, so I am hoping to get some work done. Maybe I will just enjoy some family time. We’ll see!

Did you set any New Year’s Resolutions? Are you still sticking to them?

Busy, Busy

Life has been overwhelming the past week. Nothing is much different, I just feel like I have so much more to do. I think it has a lot to do with Elly growing up. She rarely naps during the day anymore, so most of my time is spent with her. I’m not complaining. 🙂

We went to Lansing on Thursday so she could see the specialist. Turns out, the receptionist at our pediatrician’s office referred us to the wrong doctor. So, instead of seeing a GI specialist we saw the endocrine specialist. The endocrine specialist was not helpful at all, and told us that it was “most likely not a thyroid problem.” However, after telling us this she gave us a lab script to have 2 blood tests drawn to test for 8 different things.

Um, what? That seems like a lot of blood from my little girl. We took it down to the lab, and sure enough the tests that the doctor ordered required almost double the amount of blood that can be taken from a baby of Elly’s weight. Seriously. I was very angry and refused all tests. We plan on calling our pediatrician on Monday to see if we can come in and speak with the doctor directly.  Hopefully this whole thing is resolved soon.

As far as Elly’s “condition”, the puking has gotten better. She still spits up a lot after her feedings, but the projectile puking has decreased a lot. Plus, she is gaining weight so there are no indications that there is a problem. It is mostly baffling because breastfed babies generally do not spit up at all.

Elly is up to 7 lbs. 2 oz., so she has almost gained 3 pounds since birth! And she has grown to 21 inches long… 4 inches since birth!! She’s almost two feet long and she’s not even six months yet. I think she’s going to be tall like her Daddy.

Lots to do today, but I will leave you with this. Elly and her favorite toy! 🙂

Please excuse her Thanksgiving shirt. I need to catch up on laundry, and it still fits her so she gets to wear it sometimes. 😉

Guest Post

Hey Guys!

I have been keeping Mommy very busy so she hasn’t had much time to come and post, but I promise I’ll make her give you a good update soon!

Today I get to go on my first day trip. We are going to Lansing! Since Mommy and Daddy’s car is broken (again) we get to go with Aunt Whitney! We are going to Lansing because I have to see a special doctor. Mommy, Daddy, and my pediatrician are worried because I am still puking and spitting up more than normal, so they want me to see a specialist to make sure everything is okay. I’m a little nervous, so please keep me in your thoughts today!

My ‘Uncle’ Brad put out his first single yesterday from his EP. You should probably check it out because it is super amazing! You can listen to it on his facebook page. If you love it as much as I do you can show support by “liking” it! 🙂

Alright, Mommy says its time for breakfast (yay!) then it’s time to hit the road. I hope to be back later tonight with really good news from today!

Elly 🙂

Dream Big

Growing up, I had lots of dreams. They weren’t typical little girl dreams though, I never wanted to be a princess or be beautiful like Barbie. In fact, I rarely ever played with Barbie. I was more of a Ninja Turtles and Power Rangers – type of girl. However, I had other dreams.

My biggest dream, at the time, was to become a doctor. A pediatrician more specifically. My other dreams included going to college, getting married, having a baby, and buying my dream house. I think I even had little ones in there like: learn to play guitar and ride every roller coaster in the world. Crazy, no?

Well, I have not accomplished all of my dreams and to be honest, I do not care. My dreams have changed as my life changed. My dream of becoming a doctor ended after my first semester of college. There was no way I wanted to be in school for that many more years. Plus, all that chemistry, a big NO thank you. 🙂

However, I am still very happy with where my life is right now. I am a college graduate. I have a wonderful husband; who is supportive, kind, and amazing for putting up with me and all of my quirks. We have a beautiful baby girl, who is growing and getting smarter by the day. All by age 23. I’d say I’m doing pretty good. We may not have the house yet, but we will one day.

Now that I’m in the role of wife and mother, I have other dreams. I dream of big things for my daughter. I dream of big things for my family. As for myself, my current big dream is to run a marathon.

Crazy, no?

I hope to achieve this dream sometime in the year 2012. I was once a runner and I hope to get back into it. I ran 3-5K races in 2008, then completely dropped out of the running world. I’m ready to be back. I am going to be slow as a turtle when I start, and I’ll have the endurance of a snail but I will do this.

This face motivates me more than anything. Maybe one day, we’ll run a marathon together? Hey, a girl can dream. 🙂
